I have always wanted to experience a type of solitude, of depth and length of time where I could actually experience myself.
On an early Monday morning in March 2009 I woke up thinking about what I hadn’t done in life that I had always wanted to do.
I put out the word for a “rustic, secluded cabin” somewhere in British Columbia. Being a 100% City Girl, this meant finding a place that was safe yet private. Less than 2 weeks later I had rented a cottage on the Sunshine Coast – sight unseen.
On March 15th I stepped away from the modern world of computers, books, phones, TV, radio, clocks. I left my friends, family and colleagues, intent to live alone of human company for 40 days and 40 nights. This I call the modern day “wild’.
I took in 6 weeks food, clothes, a manual typewriter and paper to write with, my film camera and my cat Brodie.
My sole commitment was to come back.
I’m back.
